Contracts within the shipping industry are standardized and based on agreed BIMCO (Baltic and International Maritime Council) forms, adapted over the years to ensure an appropriate balance of rights and obligations between the ship owner and the hiring party.Below are copies of two of the most commonly used contract forms for rental of a dry cargo or container ship. There are numerous variants catering to the specifics of other ship types.
